Work on Noel Park began in 1883, on about 100 acres of farmland the Artizans', Labourers' and General Dwellings Company had bought the year before, and the estate took the name of its chairman, Ernest Noel MP.
The Artizans' Company estate
The Victoria County History tells the rest. Building ran ahead of lettings, because cheap rail tickets were offered only on early trains, and work stopped for a time in 1887. Most of the estate stood by 1907, some 2,000 dwellings, though the last houses were not finished until 1929. Rowland Plumbe designed red-brick terraces in five classes of house, each with a small garden, on long straight roads laid out in a grid, and several roads carry the names of company directors: Ashley Crescent, Pelham Road, and Farrant, Hewitt and Lymington avenues. No pubs were allowed. The council bought all 2,175 properties in 1966, and most of the estate has been a conservation area since 4 November 1982.
A terraced house of this age usually has a narrow kitchen at the back, with room for a freestanding cooker or a built-in single and little else. The method does not change with the room. Dust sheets go down, the racks, trays and side runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately, and the cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased by hand indoors.
Owners, council tenants and private tenants
In the census area the House of Commons Library names Noel Park (Haringey 010), the 2,596 households of 2021 split almost exactly three ways, and 46.8% of them lived in a terraced house.

Every appliance has its own fixed price, and the one quoted on the phone is the one on the invoice. A single oven takes about 90 minutes on site, a double about 2 hours.
Wood Green Inner and Outer zones
Noel Park is split between two of Haringey's zones. The western streets nearest Wood Green High Road are in the Wood Green Inner Zone, controlled every day from 8am to 10pm. Most of the estate to the east, including Russell Avenue, Hewitt Avenue, Lymington Avenue and Moselle Avenue, is in the Wood Green Outer Zone, controlled Monday to Saturday from 8am to 6.30pm. The council's list of zone hours says parking is free outside those hours, so on a Sunday the Outer Zone streets have no controls.

Can you come on a Sunday?
Yes, at the weekday price. On the Outer Zone avenues a Sunday visit also means no permit hours; nearer the High Road the Inner Zone runs on Sundays too.
We rent from the council and are moving out. Can the oven be done before we hand back the keys?
Yes. The clean is the same whoever the landlord is; tell us the hand-back date when you call, and cancelling is free up to 24 hours before.
Our cooker is a freestanding gas cooker in a narrow kitchen. Does that matter?
No. The oven parts come out and are soaked and cleaned separately, and the cavity and glass are cleaned in place. Mention the hob if you want it done as well.
