The church at Noak Hill was built in 1841 and 1842, brick, in the Early English style, and the living was a perpetual curacy annexed to the vicarage of Romford. The village name is a corruption of the Middle English atten oak, meaning at the oak tree. Noak Hill was made a separate civil parish on 1 October 1895 out of Romford Rural, kept its own parish council until 1934, recorded 5,610 people at the 1951 census, and was abolished as a parish on 1 April 1965.
