Centre Point stands at 101-103 New Oxford Street, and since the tower reopened as flats in March 2018 it has held 82 apartments across 34 levels, with a separate affordable block at its foot. That single Grade II listed building changed the kitchen mix on this street more than anything else has. Behind it, the WC1A stock is older and plainer: flats over shops along Museum Street and West Central Street, and social-rented blocks, which are the commonest tenure in the postcodes immediately around the road.
One street, two kinds of oven
Tower and new-build kitchens run to integrated single ovens, sometimes a combi stacked above, all developer-fitted and all wedged into a housing that has to come out before the door will split. The Bloomsbury conversions and the mansion-block flats up towards Bedford Avenue are the opposite problem: older freestanding cookers, wider gaps, more grease down the sides. New Oxford Street is part of the A40 and carries red-route restrictions, which means no casual parking outside your door at any point in a normal working day. Museum Street and West Central Street mark the edge of the Bloomsbury Conservation Area, and those side turnings are where we usually end up. Short carry, ideally.

Can you get into a building with a concierge?
Yes, though tell us at the booking so we can leave time for the goods lift and the sign-in book. Some blocks want notice from the resident first.
Is a combi microwave oven cleaned as a single?
If it has a cavity and shelves, it is priced as a single oven at £77. A plain countertop microwave is £22.
Do you need to plumb into my kitchen?
No. The tank and the power are in the van. Indoors we use hand tools and non-caustic products, so there is no smell left behind.
