New Haw Lock on the Wey Navigation has a change in level of 6 ft 8 in (2.03 m), and the two-storey red-brick lock cottage beside it, probably early 19th century, is listed at Grade II.
The Wey Navigation and its conservation area
The Navigation was finished in November 1653 and was given to the National Trust in 1964. Runnymede made its stretch a conservation area in August 1999, covering the locks, weirs and lock keepers' cottages along it.
Houses off New Haw Road
Away from the water, the streets are mostly houses. In the Census area around Meadway Drive, Moated Farm Drive, Rivermead Close and part of New Haw Road, 47.2% of the 574 households lived in a semi-detached house in 2021, 30.5% in a detached house and 12.0% in a terrace. Most owned their home (81.5%), and 13.8% rented privately, below the Runnymede figure of 19.1%.

Parking on The Broadway and by New Haw Lock
Surrey County Council's Runnymede parking review 2025 changed several New Haw streets, and the order became enforceable on 27 April 2026. On The Broadway the old garage forecourt entrance becomes a bay, Monday to Saturday 8am to 6pm, two hours with no return within two hours, like the rest of the service road; the Woodham Lane parade at Nos 278 to 300 has bays with the same limit. The order also puts double yellow lines round the end of the dead-end road to the lock off Byfleet Road, and along both sides of Eaves Close from New Haw Road to where the block paving starts.
Two hours covers a single or a double, with little to spare, so a drive is still the better place for the van. The county's Runnymede parking review page says a few locations were still being lined, so check the signs on the day.
