Neasden Village was built by a railway. In 1882 the Metropolitan Railway put up a staff colony beside its new engine works, and by 1883 its brick terraces housed 500 people.
The railway village off Neasden Lane North
The Metropolitan Railway was extended from Willesden Green to Harrow in August 1880, with a station on Neasden Lane first called Kingsbury and Neasden. The colony sat between Kingsbury Road, now Neasden Lane North, and the works. Its roads began as A and B Streets and were later renamed after stations further out on the line, which is why Neasden has a Quainton Street and a Verney Street.
Brent's appraisal of the Neasden Village conservation area, designated in November 1987, traces two more stages. In 1904 and 1905 the builders Bott and Stennett added 40 cottages, Aylesbury Street among them, for the men at the new power station. In 1925 and 1926 Chesham Street was laid out, and 130 workmen's cottages went up with a government subsidy, built from concrete posts and panels.
A two-storey cottage of this kind is likely to have a small kitchen at the back, which may hold a built-in single or a 60cm freestanding cooker. Either way, the racks, trays and side runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately, and the cavity, the fan cover and the door glass are degreased by hand in the kitchen.

The railway village streets, The Circle and Neasden Lane by the station are inside the Wembley event day zone. On a stadium event day only permit holders may park there: from 10am to midnight on most residential streets outside a zone, and from 8am to midnight inside one. The team needs somewhere to park for the whole visit, so a day without an event is the easy choice.

Not usually. Brent's map shows no controlled zone in the railway village, so the main thing to check is whether it is a Wembley event day, when only permit holders may park.
