Navestock has no village centre. The 2021 census counted 646 people across a parish of about 18 square kilometres, and the housing falls into two loose clusters, a tighter one at Navestock Side in the east and a thinner scatter at Navestock Heath in the middle, while the medieval church of St Thomas the Apostle and its hall stand on their own roughly a mile north of the Heath.

RM4 is a Romford postcode on Brentwood ground
The post town on the envelope reads Romford. The parish itself is in the Borough of Brentwood in Essex, about 5km north-west of Brentwood town, and a slice of it takes CM14 instead. The M25 clips the western edge. Neither the postcode nor the distance changes anything you pay: fixed price, no premium-area surcharge, agreed on the phone before we set off.
The green at Navestock Side predates the county club
Cricket has been played on it since the 18th century, with 1768 the earliest recorded match, and an Essex county club was formed in 1790 at the Green Man opposite. That pub was renamed Alec's in 2011. Abbotswick Hall, north of the Side, is now a Catholic retreat centre.

Do you come out this far?
Yes, seven days a week. Navestock is roughly 29km out from central London, and the price is the same as it would be on a Romford street.
Do you need my sink or an outside tap?
No. The tank, the heat and the water are all in the van, so nothing in your kitchen gets used for the soaking.
Will the house smell of chemicals afterwards?
It should not. Racks, shelves, trays and side runners soak outside in the tank. Indoors the cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased by hand with non-caustic products.
How long does it take?
About 90 minutes for a single, near enough two hours for a double. The oven is heat-tested and signed off before we go.
Said after the sign-off
Arrived promptly and did a great job cleaning the oven, hob and extractor. They look like new now and for a very reasonable price too.
