Mudchute Park and Farm is 32 acres of what came out of the Millwall Docks in the 1860s: dredged mud, pumped through a pneumatic pipe over East Ferry Road and left to settle. The Greater London Council wanted a high-rise estate on it in 1974 and lost the argument, and that single planning defeat is why the streets ringing the park stayed low while the rest of the Island went vertical.
The park splits the housing in two
West and south of Mudchute you get the older Cubitt Town pattern: surviving terraced houses, three bedrooms, a freestanding cooker or a 60cm built-under, and a kitchen big enough to open the oven door fully. East, along Manchester Road, is the Samuda Estate, put up by the London County Council between 1965 and 1967 with 505 dwellings and the 25-storey Kelson House among them. Those are lift jobs. The racks still go to the van, which means a technician makes the trip down and back with a loaded tray while the cavity soaks.
Zone D runs late here
The Isle of Dogs is Tower Hamlets parking zone D, and the controlled hours are Monday to Sunday, 8.30am to 10pm. Seven days, thirteen and a half hours. That is one of the longest windows in east London, and it is the reason a van cannot simply sit outside a Pier Street house while the job runs.

Which oven type is most common around Mudchute?
Singles, by a distance. The exception is the older Cubitt Town houses, where a kitchen extension has often gone in and a double oven in the Cubitt Town houses is a £110 job rather than £77.
What actually happens during the clean?
Racks, shelves, trays and side runners lift out and soak in the heated tank in the van. The cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased by hand inside the kitchen with non-caustic products, the door is split where the design allows, and the oven is heat-tested before the technician signs off.
Do you go up to the tower flats?
