The LCC bought Court Farm in the early 1930s and put up the Mottingham Estate, first homes occupied in 1935, and by 1937 it ran to more than two thousand houses. Two estates, two kinds of kitchen
East of Mottingham Road the picture shifts to the Coldharbour Estate, built by the old Woolwich borough from 1947 and sold heavily under Right to Buy in the 1990s. A run of near-identical houses now holds a real spread of cooker types, from a decades-old freestanding oven to a newer double a leaseholder has fitted. Whatever it is, the racks, shelves, trays and side runners lift out and soak in the heated tank down in the van, while the cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased indoors by hand with non-caustic products, so there is no smell left in the house. Parking and the three borders
