London Oven Cleaners clean ovens on the Monkhams estate from £77. You inspect the lit oven before we pack up, and any corner that is not right gets cleaned again.
James Robert Twentyman bought the Monkhams estate in 1903 and began selling it as building plots. Monkham House, the estate's mansion, was pulled down in 1930.
The Monkhams estate, sold in plots from 1903
The land belonged to Stratford Langthorne Abbey. Henry Ford Barclay bought the estate in 1864 and before he died in 1891 added much of the old Monkhams wood, west of the railway. In 1892 it was bought by Arnold Hills, a director of the Thames Ironworks, and was then mostly woodland. Before 1914 the southern part had been laid out. Twentyman died in 1928 and his trustees sold what was left; the remaining part was finished in garden-suburb style during the 1930s.
Two older marks are still on the map. In 1820 the owner of Monkhams had Snakes Lane moved south to consolidate his estate, and before that it met the Green just north of where Monkhams Avenue now runs. The thatched cottage at 1 The Glade, built around 1880, was the estate's lodge.
Detached houses in Monkhams ward
At the 2021 Census Monkhams ward had 3,716 households, and 31.9% of them lived in a detached house; across Redbridge the figure was 7.0%. Another 25.9% had a semi. In the ward 77.1% of households owned their home, 43.4% with no mortgage left, and 19.0% rented privately.
A kitchen in a house this size, especially one extended at the back, has room for a 90cm range cooker or an AGA, which a flat's kitchen rarely does. Either one is a longer job than a built-in single:

The appliance sets the price: a single, a double, a 90cm range and an AGA each have one figure, fixed on the phone before anyone comes out. Saturdays and Sundays cost the same as weekdays.
Parking on Monkhams Avenue and Inmans Row
On Redbridge's permit zone map, Monkhams Avenue around Twentyman Close and Nursery Close (IG8 0ET, IG8 0ER) lies outside any controlled zone. Further north, most of Monkhams Lane, The Glade and Denehurst Gardens are in zone WGB, where permits apply from 8.30am to 6.30pm, Monday to Friday. Barclay Oval and the Churchwood Gardens end of Inmans Row are in the small Barclay Oval zone (BAROV), 8am to 6.30pm, Monday to Saturday.
Inside a zone the van needs one of your visitor permits, because it stays parked for the whole visit; Redbridge does not sell them to tradespeople. The times above are from the council's zone map; read the signs on your own road as well.

Is Monkhams in Redbridge or Epping Forest?
Redbridge. Monkhams ward runs north past Bancroft's School, and a few roads at the Whitehall Lane end, such as Lingrove Gardens and Oakland Place, have IG9 postcodes while still being in Redbridge. The estate roads themselves are IG8.
When should the AGA go off?
The night before, so it is cool by the morning. A two-oven AGA takes about half a day, so a morning start suits it; the AGA care and cleaning guide has the rest.
Can the hood over a range be done at the same visit?
Yes. The hob or the hood of a range cooker is £48, on top of £143 for the range itself.
Where is the cleaning done?
Normally in your kitchen. The racks, trays and side runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately, and the cavity, fan cover and door glass are done by hand. Some teams have a heated tank on the van and use it when they can park close; otherwise everything is done in the kitchen. The price is the same either way, so ask when you book.

Arrived promptly and did a great job cleaning the oven, hob and extractor. They look like new now and for a very reasonable price too.
Very satisfied with the service. They were slightly late at first but I got a call from customer service to let me know, and it was all fine. The oven man, as he called himself, arrived and worked very hard for a couple of hours. My oven now looks like it has never been used.
