Mitcham Eastfields opened on 2 June 2008, the first train pulling in at 16:11, an infill station dropped at the Eastfields Road level crossing because the nearest platform before it was Mitcham Junction, over a mile off. It was the second station built to Network Rail's modular design, after Greenhithe. Entries and exits hit 1.318 million in 2024-25.
The estate is being rebuilt around the residents
Eastfields Estate went up in the 1970s with 466 homes in a Radburn layout, a perimeter block bending around a central green. Clarion is demolishing all of it and putting up to 800 homes back, in blocks of one to nine storeys. Work started in January 2024 and the first 32 homes, for existing residents, are due in 2027. Two kitchen generations sit here at once. The 1970s flats normally take a single built-under oven or a freestanding cooker, the £77 job at about ninety minutes, while the replacement homes run on air source heat pumps, so cooking is all-electric and the hob is usually ceramic or induction at £23–28.
A Radburn plan puts the van further from the door
Radburn estates separate footpaths from roads and push the parking into courts set back from the front doors. Racks, shelves, trays and side runners get carried out to the heated tank and back, so the walk affects the timing rather than the price. Cavity, fan cover and door glass are then degreased by hand indoors with non-caustic products, and the oven is heat-tested before sign-off.
Mitcham zone hours do not share a clock
Merton runs seven controlled zones across Mitcham and they all keep different hours. FG1 is Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 6.30pm. MT runs a narrow window, 11am to 3pm. MTC goes Monday to Saturday from 8.30am through to 11pm, while FG2 and LS are permit holders only, seven days. Finding a space is on us. There is no premium for the postcode and no call-out fee inside the North and South Circular.

Why does this area show both CR4 and CR0?
Mitcham proper is CR4, but Mitcham Common and part of Mitcham Junction fall in CR0, otherwise a Croydon district. The boundary runs through the area rather than around it. Neither changes what you pay.
Do you clean induction hobs?
Yes, £23–28 depending on type. Ceramic and induction tops are treated differently to gas burners, which come apart for the tank.
Can I use the oven straight after you go?
Yes. It is heat-tested before we leave and nothing caustic is used indoors, so there is no smell to wait out.
