In 1972 it won a RIBA South East Region award, and the borough architect, Bernard Ward, told the local paper that the aim was an estate mainly of houses rather than flats, at about 100 people an acre.
That shows in the 2021 Census. Of the ward's 3,889 households, 45.8% lived in a terraced house and 24.0% in a semi; only 22.4% were in a purpose-built block of flats. 53.8% owned their home, 25.7% rented from a housing association or the council and 19.1% rented privately.
