John Innes bought the farmland here in 1864 and spent from 1870 to 1904 laying out the detached and semi-detached houses the area is still known for, taking Bedford Park in Chiswick as his model, and planting the avenues of trees and holly hedges that are the reason the place does not look like the rest of SW19. It was made a conservation area in 1968, under the Civic Amenities Act of the year before. Mostyn Road, Sheridan Road and Dorset Road hold the larger houses. Kingston Road is the A238 through the top of it, and the tram stop sits on part of the old Merton Park railway station, which closed in 1997.

Houses built to that plan have kitchens with room in them, and the appliances that go into rooms of that size are the larger ones: 90cm ranges at £114, and the two-oven AGAs that a lot of period houses in this bracket end up with. An AGA clean is £143, quoted on the phone like everything else, with no premium loaded on for the postcode. The dip tank is heated in the van, so the racks, shelves, trays and side runners go out to it and the cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased by hand indoors with nothing caustic.
The rules here protect the greenery, not the kerb
Merton Park is unusual in how far the protection goes. Inside the conservation areas, any holly or other tree apart from fruit trees, once its trunk reaches three inches across measured five feet up, cannot be felled or lopped without six weeks' notice to the council. Two Article 4 directions apply on top of that, one from April 1987 and one from February 1990, and they pull in minor works that would be permitted development anywhere else. The practical effect is narrow, heavily planted roads. The van is compliant and ULEZ is not charged to you.

Yes, and it needs long enough to go cold, which is usually overnight. Mention it when you book and we will talk the timing through.
Is a range cooker really the same day job?
It is. A 90cm range is £114 and takes longer than a double, but it is one visit.
Will the products harm a period kitchen?
Nothing caustic comes into the house. The work indoors is hand-degreasing with products chosen so there is no smell left afterwards.
