Maryland station opened in 1873 as Maryland Point and kept that name until 1940, and the terraces that went up around it in those years are still most of our work here. They are small Victorian houses, north of Stratford and south of Leytonstone, with a freestanding cooker in a narrow back kitchen. The oven is usually gas or dual-fuel, and the door glass carries the worst of the burnt-on film.

Parking and access on the day
Maryland sits inside the Stratford controlled parking zone, so tell us when you book whether there is a bay or a permit space near the house, because the tank and kit ferry from the van and a long carry from a side street off Leytonstone Road eats into the job. The van usually passes the twisted clock sculpture, moved from Stratford to Maryland in 2010, and the Cart and Horses on Maryland Point on the way in.
