Mansion flats around Elgin Avenue
By 1902 Elgin Mansions, planned for 80 flat-holders, and Ashworth Mansions lined the north side of Elgin Avenue, and Carlton Mansions, at the north-west end of what is now Randolph Avenue, had room for 90. Biddulph Mansions followed in 1907 and Delaware Mansions in 1908. Most of Lauderdale Road was finished under an agreement of 1897, yet Delaware Road and the west side of Castellain Road were still empty in 1910. At the 2021 Census, 74.7% of the 4,973 households in Maida Vale ward lived in a purpose-built block of flats and 20.0% in a converted house; just 2.4% had a terraced house. Kitchens in flats of that age have been refitted since, and they usually hold a built-in single or double set into the units.
Stairs and lifts in the mansion blocks

Maida Vale was built on the Bishop of London's estate. In 1981 the Church Commissioners decided to sell the whole of it, about 200 acres and more than 2,000 properties, and offered tenants 20 per cent off the valuation. By 1985 Paddington Churches Housing Association had turned 21 houses in Randolph Avenue into 123 homes, and there were complaints about gentrification after houses bought by companies for conversion into flats rose steeply in value.
Most households here rent. In 2021, 42.6% of households rented privately and 27.0% rented from the council or a housing association, more than half of those from an association; 29.6% owned. Parking near Maida Vale station
Maida Vale station, opened on the Bakerloo line in 1915, sits in Westminster's sub-zone C1.
