The 2007 appraisal of the Outer Loudwater conservation area records the remains of a Roman villa across the River Chess at Trout Rise, and evidence of a brewery beside the river with a large corn-drying oven, probably used for malting grain for beer.
The thatched houses of the Troutstream estate
Loudwater House, a Regency house built about 1805 for John Wilson and turned into flats by 1939, is part of the estate's history. Building plots were first put up for auction on 17 May 1922, and few sold. To show buyers what they could have, the McNamaras designed and built two thatched show houses on Trout Rise, Ringway (now Kingfisher Cottage) and Chauminette. Ethel Clara McNamara of that family was one of the first women recognised as an architect in England in the 1920s; her husband Sidney was the builder.
About half the plots had houses by 1939 and roughly 80% of the estate was finished by 1959. The council's 2013 appraisal lists 19 surviving thatched houses along Troutstream Way, Trout Rise, Cherry Hill and Whisper Wood; McNamara roofs were thatched in Norfolk reed or tiled in hand-made tiles. Most houses on the estate stand on generous plots among mature trees, and a Tree Preservation Order covers most of the site.

Detached houses, most still on a mortgage
The 2021 Census output area that takes in Trout Rise, Cherry Hill, Whisper Wood, Loudwater Heights and Farm Lane had 116 households. 111 of them, or 95.7%, lived in a detached house. Owners made up 91.4%, and 55.2% of all households were still paying off a mortgage.
Houses this size usually have a large kitchen, and the cooker in it is more often a built-in double, a 90cm range or an AGA than a lone single. The racks and trays of a range come out and are soaked and cleaned separately while the cavities, fan cover and glass are degreased by hand indoors on dust sheets.
Private roads on the estate
The freehold of every road, verge and wood on the Troutstream estate belongs to the estate company, so none of its roads is a public highway. The public entrance is Kingfisher Lure, which leads to Troutstream Way, Trout Rise and Violet Way; Loudwater Heights is reached from Sarratt Lane. Outside the estate, the 2007 appraisal describes Sarratt Lane and Loudwater Lane as single-track under trees, and Bridle Lane as a private gated estate with one entrance. No Loudwater road is on Three Rivers' list of permit-zone streets, so there is nothing to buy from the council; go by any estate signs. Pulling onto your drive works best.

A pyrolytic oven or a hand clean?
Some newer built-in ovens are pyrolytic: on the cleaning cycle they heat to around 500°C and burn grease to ash. The cycle does not clean the racks or side runners, which usually have to come out first, or the glass between the door panes, and it struggles with a thick glaze of old fat. A hand clean does those parts and the cavity in one visit. The guide to pyrolytic self-cleaning against a professional clean sets the two side by side.
Loudwater oven cleaning questions
Is Loudwater part of Rickmansworth or Chorleywood?
The postal town is Rickmansworth, but the civil parish is Chorleywood. The Troutstream estate's postcodes were already in Chorleywood parish, and from 1 April 2026 the unparished area round Armitage Close joined Chorleywood Parish Council too, under Three Rivers' community governance review. All of it is Three Rivers district, postcode WD3, and the Chorleywood page covers the wider area.
I live on Bridle Lane, behind the gate. What do you need?
Tell us how the gate opens when you book, and make sure someone is in to look at the lit oven at the end, which is the sign-off.
Can you clean the extractor over a range?
Yes. The hob or hood of a range cooker is £48, and an ordinary extractor is £28; both can be done at the same visit as the oven.

Said after the sign-off
Brilliant clean, my oven looks like brand new. A 5 star clean.
Nice hardworking lads that always do a good job. We used them for our old flat when moving out and for the new one now, both jobs were done very professionally. My wife is very impressed with the results and would recommend them to friends and family.
Once again a great job guys, I will see you in a couple of months.
