Longford is the westernmost settlement in Greater London, and the M25 forms its western boundary with Colnbrook in Berkshire. The village is one line of building along the Bath Road, the A4, and four watercourses cross it: the Colne, the Wraysbury, the Longford River and the Duke of Northumberland's. The old road crosses the Colne on the King's Bridge, whose cast-iron railings carry a crown and the letters WR IV 1834.
Seven listed buildings sit on a road marked for clearance
The old Longford Meeting House, once used by the Society of Friends, is one of the Grade II entries. Because the conservation area was drawn in 1988 around a village that the current runway scheme would remove in its entirety, Longford now sits in the odd position of holding seven listed buildings, one listed wall and a demolition line inside the same postcode. Nothing is down yet. The kitchens are still in use.

Across the Heathrow Villages ward the split runs roughly 62 per cent houses and bungalows against 38 per cent flats and maisonettes. Several of the timber-framed Bath Road cottages have been divided into flats, which means a small back kitchen with a freestanding cooker or a single integrated oven. Access, buses and the emissions zone
Two bus routes serve the village, the 81 between Hounslow and Slough and the 423 to Terminal 5, so the frontage is busier than the house count suggests. Racks, shelves, trays and side runners soak in the heated tank in the van. Cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased by hand indoors with non-caustic products. Not for the oven. The soaking happens in the van, and indoors we work by hand rather than spraying caustic about.

The Bath Road frontage, or whatever the property has. Tell us which end of the village you are on, because the Colne and the M25 both cut the run. Reckon on 90 minutes for a single, two hours for a double, heat-tested and signed off before we go.
