By 1925 Blomfield Road had been publicised as 'Venice in Paddington', but the name Little Venice only came into general use after the Second World War, for the pool where the Grand Union (then Grand Junction) Canal meets the Regent's Canal and for the banks running east to Edgware Road.
Stucco houses by the canal pool
Building on the Bishop of London's land north of the canal was slow until the 1850s. Then a lease for 32 acres around Warwick Road, now Warwick Avenue, and Warrington Crescent required the houses to be finished within eight years; half the ground was kept for gardens, and the houses were stuccoed in an Italianate style. A 2004 Westminster leaflet counts over 350 listed buildings in the Maida Vale conservation area, mostly grade II, among them the stuccoed houses, villas and flats around Warwick Avenue, Warrington Crescent, Formosa Street and Clifton Gardens.
A good many of those houses are now flats. At the 2021 Census, 31.1% of the 4,465 households in Little Venice ward lived in part of a converted or shared house, against 20.0% in neighbouring Maida Vale ward. A flat inside a tall stucco house usually puts a staircase between the kitchen and the street. Mention the floor when you call so the visit is timed for it.
Whole houses with bigger cookers
Not every house was divided. In 2021, 35.4% of households in the ward owned their home, more than half of them outright, and 43.1% rented privately. A kitchen in a whole house usually has room for something wider than the standard 60cm built-in. The sizes are priced separately:

Parking around Warwick Avenue at the weekend
Four of Westminster's parking sub-zones lie within a few hundred metres of the pool: C1 around Formosa Street, BC1 along Randolph Road and Clarendon Gardens, CB1 on Warwick Crescent and Delamere Terrace, and B4 on Maida Avenue. Under the council's hours from March 2026, all four keep the same hours: paid bays, single yellow lines and resident bays are controlled from 8.30am to 6.30pm, Monday to Friday, and not at weekends.
Westminster has no on-street visitor permits, so a weekday clean means a paid bay for the van. On a Saturday or Sunday the controls are off, and the clean costs the weekday price.

My flat is on the second floor of a converted house with no lift. Is that a problem?

Can you clean a range cooker in a listed house?
Yes. The listing covers the building; the cooker is cleaned in place on dust sheets, and its removable parts come out to be soaked and cleaned separately. Tell us the width so the right price is agreed.
What happens before you leave?
The oven is rebuilt and heated, and you inspect it before we pack up. Any corner missed gets redone.
