Little Russia covered Pretoria Road, Durban Road and Lorenco Road, west of the railway line between Silver Street and White Hart Lane, along the straight northern edge of Haringey where the borough runs up against Edmonton. It is a historic label, not a road sign. The name was earned in the early twentieth century by immigrants from the Russian Empire, Russian Jews and political exiles among them, who took work locally in trades like cabinet-making and tailoring, with numbers peaking after the 1917 revolution.
The 1970s decided the kitchens
The area was mostly redeveloped in the 1970s, so the stock here leans to that period and later rather than to surviving Victorian terrace. Kitchens of that build normally take a freestanding 60cm cooker or a single oven built under the worktop, which is the £77 job at roughly ninety minutes. Pretoria Road is still moving: the council has had before it a four-storey block of 52 extra care units on the vacant land between numbers 17 and 34.
