Lewisham market has run since 1906 and is one of the handful of six-day markets left in London, which tells you most of what you need to know about the town centre: it is busy from Monday morning and the kerb is spoken for. Molesworth Street, the dual carriageway stretch of the A21 running past the Shopping Centre, is not somewhere a van stops.
Lewisham Central has two kinds of kitchen
The new-build side is the Loampit Vale corridor. Lewisham Gateway alone is putting up around a thousand flats, with the first phase delivering 193 homes in blocks of 25 and 15 storeys, and Silkworks on Conington Road and Riverdale House on Molesworth Street are the same story. Those kitchens are almost all one integrated single oven, a four-zone hob and a hood that recirculates through a filter rather than venting outside. Grease builds up faster in that setup. Walk five minutes off the High Street and the housing is late-Victorian terrace, subdivided, with freestanding cookers and the odd 90cm range in the ground-floor conversions.

- Racks, shelves, trays and side runners come out to a heated tank in the van; the cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased by hand indoors.

- A hood with no duct to the outside. The filter is the only thing between the grease and the room, and it needs doing more often.
The parking rules here are longer than most of Lewisham
Lewisham Central sits in CPZ B1, which operates Monday to Saturday, 9am to 7pm. The southern half is B2 and adds Sunday morning, 9am until 1.30pm. Six or seven days of restriction is unusual for the borough. It is workable, but it is the reason we ask for a rough parking answer when the booking is on a High Street side road.

Do the tower flats need anything different?
Only the hood. The recirculating hoods in the Lewisham Gateway flats take £28 on top of the oven, and doing them together saves a second visit.
How long will the technician be in the flat?
Ninety minutes or so for a single, about two hours for a double. Add roughly twenty minutes for a hob.
Is there a smell afterwards?
No. The caustic work happens in the tank in the van. What comes indoors is non-caustic, which matters more in a sealed new-build than it does in a draughty terrace.
Do you work weekends for tenancy checkouts?
Seven days. The Loampit Vale blocks turn over constantly and most of those bookings are agent-arranged.

Very satisfied with the service. They were slightly late at first but I got a call from customer service to let me know, and it was all fine. The oven man, as he called himself, arrived and worked very hard for a couple of hours. My oven now looks like it has never been used.
