Leicester Square was pedestrianised in the 1980s, and deliveries are only let on between midnight and eleven in the morning, with marshals controlling the access points. So the van has to be off the square by eleven. That one fact decides how we book work here.
Flats above the shopfronts
The homes are upper floors. Lisle Street, St Martin's Street, the buildings running back towards Cranbourn Street: one-beds and two-beds over restaurants, shops and clubs, let privately and turned over fast. An agent's listing for one Lisle Street flat warns that music from the club underneath carries on until three in the morning on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, which tells you plainly what sort of tenancy this is and roughly how long it tends to last. Kitchens are small and integrated. Single oven, hob, hood recirculating through a filter.
Extraction from downstairs is the local problem
A flat over a restaurant kitchen collects grease that has nothing to do with the tenant's cooking. It lands on the top of the hood and around the vents, and it is greyer and stickier than the burnt-on stuff inside an oven. The oven itself we handle the same way we do anywhere. Racks, shelves, trays and side runners go into the heated tank in the van; the cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased by hand indoors with non-caustic products; heat-test, sign off, leave. The hood filter above a Chinatown flat is nearly always in worse shape than the oven.
Getting a van in
Westminster meters and permit bays on the streets either side, £18 a day for the Congestion Charge, and no useful loading on the square itself once eleven has gone. The car park underneath will not take a van at dip-tank height. Early starts work. So do Sundays.

Can you come before eleven?
That is when we would rather come. An early slot means the van gets close and the parts do not travel far.
Do you do end-of-tenancy cleans here?
Most of our Leicester Square bookings are checkouts. Agents around Chinatown want the door glass split and the side runners out, and both are part of the standard clean.
Is there a call-out fee?
No. WC2 is well inside the North and South Circular. Ring 020 8077 5225 and the figure quoted is the figure you pay.
Said after the sign-off
Very satisfied with the service. They were slightly late at first but I got a call from customer service to let me know, and it was all fine. The oven man, as he called himself, arrived and worked very hard for a couple of hours. My oven now looks like it has never been used.
I would certainly recommend this service, very efficient and good value for money. The young man did a great job and even cleaned the kitchen floor. Thank you.
