Lewisham designated the Lee Manor conservation area in 1975. In the census area covering Southbrook, Micheldever and Wantage Roads (Lewisham 016D), 26.1% of the 763 households lived in part of a converted or shared house in 2021 and 37.0% in a terraced house; two-thirds (67.6%) owned their home. A flat made from a Victorian villa often has its kitchen in the old back addition or a raised basement, with steps between it and the street.
