Leaves Green stands on the Bromley to Westerham road, the A233, five miles south of Bromley and two miles north of Biggin Hill, hard against the north-western perimeter of the airport. The green it is named after is large and straddles the road.
A 450-acre estate that never turned into houses
The Leaves Green estate on the south side, 450 acres of farmland, was sold in the early 1930s on the expectation of serious housebuilding, but the war intervened, Biggin Hill aerodrome expanded into the space, and the green belt came in afterwards and settled the question for good. Almost none of it happened. So this stayed a hamlet rather than becoming a suburb, and most of what surrounds the houses is common, farmland and airfield.

Coal tax post 186 stands on the common
One of London's coal tax posts, number 186, stands on Leaves Green Common, where it once marked the edge of the ground on which the City of London Corporation charged duty on coal. It is on the village sign too. Parts of the common have been left to grow wilder so the flora can regenerate. The Kings Arms on Leaves Green Road, BR2 6DU, dates from the eighteenth century and was listed Grade II on 29 June 1973.
