Leatherhead's first council houses, 59 of them in Poplar Road, were built by the urban district council in 1921, and ex-servicemen and their families had first call on them. Four years later the council added 90 more in Kingston Road.
Leatherhead's housing, from Queen Anne's Gardens to the Swan Centre
The town had started to spread before the First World War. Between 1900 and 1905 new houses went up in Fairfield Road, Highlands Road, Kingston Road and Queen Anne's Gardens. Givons Grove, south of the town, had been arable land known as Gibbons Farm; a consortium of developers bought it in 1927 and divided it into plots, and the houses went up in the late 1920s and early 1930s. After the Second World War new housing to the north of the centre, along Cleeve, Kingston and Copthorne Roads, replaced homes damaged by bombing.
The early 1980s brought the Swan Centre, a covered shopping centre with a multistorey car park, and a pedestrianised High Street. Its next change is on paper: in November 2025 the Leret Partnership, a 50:50 joint venture between Mole Valley District Council and Kier, submitted a planning application to redevelop the Swan Centre and Bull Hill.
The census shows the mix. In Leatherhead North ward 42.0% of households lived in a purpose-built block of flats in 2021, 22.1% rented from a social landlord and 24.2% from a private one. Leatherhead South was a different place, with 36.2% of homes detached. A flat in the north of the town usually has a built-in single, about 90 minutes' work; a house in Givons Grove can have anything up to a range.

Detached houses and 90cm ranges in Fetcham and Ashtead
Fetcham to the west and Ashtead to the east have bigger houses. At the 2021 Census 57.5% of households in Fetcham East ward lived in a detached house, as did 60.3% in Ashtead Park, against 37.6% for Mole Valley. In Fetcham West, 90.3% of households owned their home. Bigger kitchens mean bigger cookers:
- 90cm range
- A freestanding cooker 90cm wide with a hob on top and, usually, two ovens side by side. £143, two to three hours.
- 100cm range
- The same idea 10cm wider, with more oven space behind the doors. £167.
The Fetcham and Ashtead pages cover those villages, and our page on range cooker cleaning explains the longer visit.
Long-owned houses around Box Hill
The Box Hill and Headley ward, on the downs south-east of the town, had 980 households in 2021, and 65.6% of them owned their home outright: the highest share of any ward in Mole Valley. Outright ownership usually means an older household that has been in the same house a long time. Where there is an AGA in a house like that, a two-oven model is £143 and takes about half a day; it has to be switched off the night before so it is cool when we arrive. See the Box Hill page for that side of the valley.

The Swan Centre's 1.9m height limit and the other car parks
Mole Valley District Council's car park list gives the Swan Centre car park a 1.9m height limit, 266 short-stay spaces and a four-hour limit; it is locked from midnight to 7am. A limit that low rules out most vans. The open car parks are the practical choice: Randalls Road has 202 long and short-stay spaces and Station Road has 86. The minimum charge in Leatherhead's car parks is one hour.
On the street, Surrey County Council sets and enforces the restrictions. Its Mole Valley parking review 2026 is being advertised from 17 September to 15 October 2026, so lines in some roads may change after that. The team needs somewhere to park, and a space near the door suits us better than a cheap one across town.
Leatherhead oven cleaning questions
Can you park in the Swan Centre?
Not with a van taller than 1.9m. Randalls Road or Station Road car park, or a legal space outside the house, will do.
I rent a flat in Leatherhead North. Can my agent pay?
Yes. The invoice can be made out to the agency, and photos of the clean oven can be taken for the checkout file. Our end of tenancy oven cleaning guide covers deposits.
When should I switch off my AGA?
The evening before the visit, so the ovens and hotplates have cooled right down by morning.
Do you work weekends?
Yes, every day of the week, and weekend visits are charged at the weekday price.

Reviews from our rounds
Nice hardworking lads that always do a good job. We used them for our old flat when moving out and for the new one now, both jobs were done very professionally. My wife is very impressed with the results and would recommend them to friends and family.
Very satisfied with the service. They were slightly late at first but I got a call from customer service to let me know, and it was all fine. The oven man, as he called himself, arrived and worked very hard for a couple of hours. My oven now looks like it has never been used.
Brilliant clean, my oven looks like brand new. A 5 star clean.
