Lea Bridge station reopened on 16 May 2016 after 31 years shut, put back with £5m of Waltham Forest council money, £1.1m from the Department for Transport's New Stations Fund and £5.5m of Section 106 contributions, and it now runs half-hourly to Stratford and Tottenham Hale, five minutes either way. It sits on Argall Way by the Lea Bridge Road junction. That reopening is the reason the rest of this list exists.
Bay-fronted brick, 1870 to 1910
Leyton is mostly terraced housing thrown up between 1870 and 1910 as the railways arrived, two- to seven-bed bay-fronted terraces in solid brick along streets like Francis Road, Colchester Road, Lindley Road and Farmer Road. Houses that size get split. A lot of them are flats or shared houses now, which means tenancies ending through the year rather than only in September, and an oven that four people have cooked in and nobody has owned.
The new blocks arrive with the oven already fitted
Motion E10, the scheme on the old 97 Lea Bridge Road site, is putting up 300 homes with 57 per cent affordable, its design taken from the Victorian terraces nearby and the Lea Bridge Gasworks. Flats like those come with an integrated single oven, £77, about ninety minutes, and usually a hob at £23–28 that has never been lifted.
Why the tank stays outside
Racks, shelves, trays and side runners come out and soak in a heated tank in the van. The cavity, fan cover and door glass are done by hand indoors with non-caustic products, so a flat with one small window is not full of fumes for the rest of the day. The oven is heat-tested and signed off before we leave.
