Larks Wood, the oak and hornbeam wood off New Road, is what is left of a much larger tract of woodland that once included Epping Forest; a survey of the manor of Chingford Earls in 1564 recorded 100 acres of woodland, mainly at Larkswood.
Larkswood Park's lido years
Farming hung on late in Chingford. As late as 1922 the parish still had a dozen working farms. In 1936 Chingford Borough Council created Larkswood Park, now about 24 hectares and taking in part of the old wood. The open-air pool, with room for 2,500 bathers, was built on the site of Larks Farm and opened on 28 July that year by the Minister of Health, Sir Kingsley Wood. The lido closed in 1987. A water park called FantaSeas ran on the site from 1990 to 1992, and a leisure centre has stood there since the early 2000s, on New Road beside the wood.
Homes in Larkswood ward
There has been a Larkswood ward since the 1978 elections; the 2021 Electoral Changes Order abolished the old wards and set up a new Larkswood with three councillors from May 2022. It runs east from Chingford Mount Road across Larkswood Road, Tudor Road and Lena Kennedy Close towards Larkshall Road. At the 2021 Census the area of the new ward held 5,096 households: 39.8% in a terraced house, 25.5% in a semi and 26.4% in a purpose-built block of flats. 58.8% owned their home, 19.4% rented from the council or a housing association and 18.6% rented privately.

Larkswood's parking zones
The council's March 2026 zone map shows several small zones in and around the ward. Royston Avenue (RA), just off Chingford Mount Road, has core hours of 8am to 6.30pm, Monday to Saturday. Coolgardie (CG), on the Larkshall Road side, has core hours of 10am to 4pm, Monday to Friday.
