The two front ranges of Lancaster Gate, set back a little from the road, were designed in 1857 by Sancton Wood, and two more ranges behind them went up in about 1865 to designs by John Johnson: narrow stucco houses of five or six storeys piled on a basement.

Parking in Bayswater's sub-zone B6
The streets round the square, Craven Terrace and Craven Hill Gardens are in Westminster's sub-zone B6. On the council's March 2026 table its paid bays and single yellow lines are controlled 8.30am to 6.30pm on weekdays and 8.30am to 1.30pm on Saturdays, and its resident bays 8.30am to 8.30pm every day, bank holidays included. Westminster has no on-street visitor permit, and a working van can load in a bay for 20 minutes in controlled hours, so the van needs a paid bay or a zone B trade permit.
