The hamlet on Halfway Street
Until the 19th century this area was a major farm and the parkland of two country houses, The Hollies and Lamorbey Park. Bexley made the old cottages a conservation area on 6 November 1985. On Burnt Oak Lane, Nos 10 to 16 are a terrace of four cottages built in 1874 for workers on the Lamorbey estate. Lamorbey House itself, said to date from about 1750 and probably refaced in an Elizabethan style around 1840, is now home to Rose Bruford College, which opened in September 1950.
A cottage of this age is unlikely to have the kitchen it started with. The cooker may well be in a later room at the back, and whether it is freestanding or built in depends on how much space that room gives.
Flats in the old Hollies children's home
In 1899 the Greenwich Poor Law Union bought 62 acres for a model home for orphans. It opened on 30 October 1902 and in its early days housed over 500 children: the boys in four three-storey blocks, The Beeches, The Firs, The Limes and The Oaks, with 50 to a block, and the girls in twinned cottages named after trees. The home closed in the late 1980s. The main buildings were converted to apartments, the clock tower (once the water tower) was kept, and new houses went up around Rowanwood Avenue and Acacia Way in the 1990s.
At the 2021 Census, in the area round Rowanwood Avenue (Bexley 022E), 31 of the 483 households lived in part of a converted building (the census gives a former school, church or warehouse as examples) and 34.6% lived in a detached house. In a converted block, tell us the floor and whether there is a lift. The racks and trays come out and are soaked and cleaned separately, and the cavity, the fan cover and the door glass are done by hand in the flat.
In the 1930s H. Smith and Company of Eltham built Willersley Avenue and Braundton Avenue as part of Smith's Hollies Estate, mostly chalet-style houses, with most of the plans submitted in March 1932. Around Braundton Avenue (Bexley 022D), 63.7% of households lived in a semi in 2021 and 91.2% owned their home.

Lamorbey roads inside the Sidcup Station zone
Bexley's controlled parking list puts three stretches in and beside Lamorbey in its Sidcup Station area: Halfway Street from the Hurst Road and Station Road junction to No. 75, Burnt Oak Lane Nos 1 to 29 and 8 to 16 (which takes in the 1874 cottages), and Hurst Road Nos 1 to 155 and 2 to 148. Willersley Avenue, Braundton Avenue and Rowanwood Avenue are not on it (checked October 2026). The council's page does not give the hours for each zone, so read the sign at the end of your road and mention it when you book. Homes nearer the station and the High Street are on the Sidcup page.

Can you clean the hob at the same visit?

What should I do before you arrive?
