Kingswood Warren, the battlemented Gothic house south of the village, was home to the BBC's Research Department from the 1940s until early 2010. Octagon bought it on 1 March 2010 and developed it as Kingswood Warren Park: eight apartments in the mansion and new houses in the grounds.

The Warren gives its name to the garden estate of south Upper Kingswood. Octagon's sales page quoted local guide books calling the setting Arcadian, for the space and the trees, with wide avenues lined with large family houses. In the small area that takes in Kingswood Warren and the roads east of the station such as The Chase, Lilley Drive and The Glade, 78.6% of the 679 households lived in a detached house in 2021, against 27.9% across Reigate and Banstead. Nearly a third of them, 32.5%, had three or more cars.
Houses on that scale are where range cookers and AGAs are most likely, though a big kitchen can just as well hold a built-in double. The visit is planned around the cooker, so it helps to know which one you have.

Whatever the size, dust sheets go down first. Shelves, trays and side runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately, and the cavities, fan covers and door glass are degreased by hand indoors. On a big plot, if a car can leave the drive for the morning, that is the easiest place for the van.

When should we switch the AGA off?

Does a range cooker need switching off early too?
No. A gas or electric range only needs to be cool when we arrive.
Can the oven be used the same evening?
Yes. It is put back together and heated before we leave, and you look inside with it lit.
