The spread of kitchens
Housing here is not one thing. Norbiton and Canbury run to Victorian terraces, including the curving row on Canbury Park Road, which usually means a freestanding cooker or a wall-set double. New Malden went up largely in the late 1920s and 1930s after the Kingston bypass opened, so Edwardian villas and inter-war semis dominate, and those kitchens often hold a big double oven. Tolworth and Chessington add post-war semis and estate flats with integrated single ovens. Around the Cambridge Road Estate you get the ex-council blocks, two and three storeys, tight galley kitchens where the oven still lifts out cleanly.
Coombe and the range cookers
Coombe is the outlier. On the private roads of the Coombe Hill and Coombe Warren estates, along George Road, Warren Road and Golf Club Drive, sit some of the largest detached houses in south-west London, many built between 1850 and 1870, backing onto the two golf clubs. Our method
Whatever the oven, the routine holds. Racks, shelves, trays and side runners come out and soak in the heated tank in the van, so the caustic side of the work never enters your kitchen. The cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased by hand indoors with non-caustic products, which is why there is no chemical smell once we finish, and where the door design allows it we split the glass to clear the film between the panes before the oven is heat-tested and signed off. A single takes about ninety minutes. A double runs to roughly two hours.
Parking and the ULEZ
The whole borough falls inside the ULEZ, which has covered every London borough since August 2023, and our van is compliant, so there is no charge to pass on and no call-out fee. Parking varies street by street. Surbiton and pockets of the town centre run controlled parking zones, so around the station and the market the technician tends to use a pay-and-display bay while parts ferry to the tank.
