Kings Langley is split by the River Gade. The larger, western part of the village is in Dacorum, and the smaller part east of the river, where Station Road and the old Ovaltine works are, belongs to Three Rivers.

The census follows the council line. The old village lines the High Street, with a row of cottages at the bottom of the Common, and the local history society counts three conservation areas in it. Twentieth-century estates then spread Kings Langley out on both sides of the main road. So the cooker could be anything from a slot-in model in a cottage kitchen to a built-in double in a refitted family kitchen.
The Ovaltine site on Station Road
Ovaltine was made in Kings Langley from 1913, and the factory was enlarged between 1924 and 1929. In February 2004 Three Rivers District Council gave Fairview planning permission for 367 homes on the site, 257 private and 110 affordable, with underground car parking and 1.5 spaces per home. The council asked for the Art Deco front of the factory, with its sheaves of corn, to be kept, and it still stands beside the railway among the new housing.

Its bays are for permit holders from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, and outside those hours no permit is needed. Residents buy visitor vouchers in books of ten, and the van needs one if it stops in a resident bay during the day.
A Saturday or Sunday visit avoids zone RG entirely and costs the weekday price. On the Dacorum side, give us the street and say whether the house has a drive.
