Around 1134 the name was written Cuneburna, the royal or perhaps the cow's stream; it was first the name of the priory beside the stream and later of the whole neighbourhood on both sides of the Edgware Road.
That road, Kilburn High Road, is now the line between two councils. This page covers the east side, Camden's Kilburn ward, from Webheath and Kingsgate Road down to Kilburn Priory and the Abbey estate on Belsize Road. Roads named after Kent
In 1866 plans were approved for roads on the Powell-Cotton family's land here, named after places in Kent near their seat at Quex Park: Quex, Birchington and Mutrix Roads. Kingsgate Road, another Kent name, had reached the estate border by 1875 and had 77 houses by 1888. Gascony and Messina Avenues followed, with 130 houses between 1881 and 1887. At the West End Lane end of Quex Road, Douglas Mansions went up in 1896 and the three blocks of King's Gardens in 1897.
Webheath, Kingsgate and the Kilburn Vale estate
Parts of Victorian Kilburn were cleared after the war. The London County Council announced 104 flats in Kilburn Vale in 1947, and the estate opened around 1951; a second phase north of West End Lane, between Mutrix and Quex Roads, was finished by 1984 and took the eastern end of Birchington Road with it. Florence Cayford, later renamed Webheath, was designed by the borough architect Sidney Cook and opened in two stages, 1970 and 1972, for 400 people. In 1975 the Kingsgate estate added 146 houses south of Gascony Avenue.
The 2021 Census counted 5,561 households in the ward. Two in three lived in a purpose-built block, only 5.7% had a whole house, and 31.7% rented straight from the council. A council flat may have a built-in oven or a freestanding cooker; either way the shelves, trays and runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately, and the cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased by hand in the kitchen, dust sheets down first.
Parking in zones CA-Q and CA-K
Camden's zone data (September 2025) puts the northern streets, Netherwood Street, Palmerston Road and most of Kingsgate Road, in CA-Q, Kilburn. Kilburn Vale, Kilburn Priory, Birchington Road and Belsize Road are in CA-K, Kilburn Priory. Quex Road, Gascony Avenue and Messina Avenue fall in overlap areas shared between zones. Every one of them is controlled from 8.30am to 6.30pm on weekdays, with no Saturday or Sunday hours.
The estates are a separate matter. Camden says estate land inside a zone runs its own parking rules, and its trade permit, which lets a tradesperson use resident bays in controlled hours, cannot be used on a housing estate. For a flat on an estate such as Webheath the van may have to use a street bay. Visitor permits are for a resident's own guests.

Which council is my side of the High Road?
East of Kilburn High Road, towards West End Lane, is Camden. West of it, towards Brondesbury and Queen's Park, is Brent.
Is a weekend visit easier for parking?
Yes. Neither CA-Q nor CA-K has weekend hours, and a Saturday or Sunday visit costs the weekday price.
Can the hob be done at the same visit?

Very satisfied with the service. They were slightly late at first but I got a call from customer service to let me know, and it was all fine. The oven man, as he called himself, arrived and worked very hard for a couple of hours. My oven now looks like it has never been used.
