Isleworth Riverside, designated on 11 November 1972, is the largest conservation area in Hounslow, and its oldest streets (South Street, North Street, Mill Plat and Church Street) still follow a medieval layout.
Terraces off Linkfield Road and St John's Road
West of the conservation area, Linkfield Road and St John's Road curve from London Road down to Twickenham Road, with two-storey terraces on and off them. Hounslow's riverside appraisal calls these streets Victorian and its Woodlands Grove appraisal calls them early 20th century; either way they are terraces, and the 2021 Census agrees. In the small census area around Loring Road, Newton Road and the station end of St John's Road (Hounslow 014G), 63.1% of the 659 households lived in a terraced house, and 69.1% owned their home.

Old Isleworth, Church Street and the Four Roads
Down by the river the houses are older and more mixed. Church Street is a ribbon of mainly 18th and 19th century houses; nos. 49 to 53 are a Grade II group of 18th century brick houses, and the London Apprentice is listed at Grade II*. South of South Street, the Four Roads (Byfield, Algar, Tolson and Worple) are mostly terraced houses of the late 19th and very early 20th century, built on a former walled market garden; parts of the walls, dating from 1717 to 1818, still stand.
Much of old Isleworth was pulled down before the Second World War, more was bombed, and in 1951 some 30 acres were designated a redevelopment area. Further along Church Street there are closes of late 20th and early 21st century housing, on larger plots and wider streets than the old fronts. Across Isleworth ward as a whole, 46.5% of households lived in a purpose-built flat in 2021 and 26.8% rented from the council or a housing association.

Isleworth's parking zones have different hours
Hounslow's parking map puts Loring Road, Newton Road and most of St John's Road in the Linkfield Road area zone, controlled 10am to noon and 5pm to 7pm on weekdays, so the early afternoon is outside its hours. Old Isleworth is different: the North Street area zone runs 9.30am to 5pm on weekdays, the Church Street and Mill Plat zone 9am to 11am, and South Street has a shoppers' zone that runs 9.30am to 5pm from Monday to Saturday. The council says the map is guidance only, and the signs on the street decide. Apart from South Street, none of those zones has weekend hours on that map, and a weekend visit costs the weekday price.

My house is listed. Does that change how the oven is cleaned?

When is the easiest time to park on Linkfield Road?
On the council's map, weekdays between noon and 5pm, or any time at the weekend. Check the zone sign at the end of your road, as the council asks.
