A river intake was built at Hythe End in 1910 by the Metropolitan Water Board, and water still leaves the Thames at this spot to run east down the Staines Aqueduct towards the works at Ashford Common, feeding the King George VI Reservoir on the way and carrying on past Kempton Park. Wraysbury and Hythe End Gravel Pits were notified as a Site of Special Scientific Interest in 1992 and cover 117.2 hectares, near enough 290 acres, four former gravel pits sitting in the flood plains of the Thames and the Colne Brook. More than 40 bird species use them, tufted duck, gadwall, goosander and goldeneye among the wintering wildfowl. Most of the ground here is lakes where the gravel used to be, so the kitchens are on the road. Riverside stock of that kind tends to a freestanding cooker or one integrated single with a hob over it, and a hob at a Staines Road address is £23–28.

There should be. The soaking happens in the van, so all that is needed indoors is space to stand at the oven and hand-clean the cavity, fan cover and door glass.
