No. 237 Hoxton Street is a mid-18th-century house of two storeys and an attic under a steep pantiled roof, with shops on its ground floor. It is listed at Grade II, and so is No. 173 further south, a tall late-18th-century house with a slated mansard.

Hackney first designated Hoxton Street a conservation area in 1983, and its cabinet approved several extensions to it on 27 November 2023. The council describes a long market street of narrow plots, three and four storeys high, with several 18th-century houses and many modest 19th-century buildings that keep their old shop fronts, surrounded by council estates in much larger blocks. Hoxton Hall, at No. 130, opened as a music hall in 1863 and later passed to the Bedford Institute, a Quaker organisation.
Homes above shops are often flats reached by their own stair. Kitchens in buildings this narrow tend to be small, with a built-in single or a slim freestanding cooker. The racks, trays and side runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately. The cavity, the fan cover and the door glass are degreased by hand in your kitchen, and the door is split where its design allows.
The Arden estate west of Hoxton Street
West of the street lies the Arden estate. One of its blocks, Macbeth House on Ivy Street, was approved by the London County Council in 1956: eight storeys and 35 homes. In the census area that includes Crondall Street (Hackney 032A), 51.9% of the 756 households rented from a social landlord in 2021 (48.1% from the council itself), and 93.1% lived in a purpose-built block of flats.

Parking on market Saturdays in zone F
Hoxton Street from Hoxton Hall northwards, Crondall Street, Ivy Street and Bacchus Walk are in Hackney's zone F (Hoxton) on the council's zone map; the bottom end of Hoxton Street is in zone B (North Shoreditch), which is controlled until midnight, Monday to Saturday. The council's zone list puts zone F's controls at 8.30am to 6.30pm on weekdays and 8.30am to 1.30pm on Saturday, and the council's market page (read in October 2026) has Hoxton Street Market trading every Saturday from 9am to 4pm. So on a Saturday the zone bays need a permit or visitor voucher until 1.30pm, while the market runs until 4pm; on Sunday there are no zone controls, though yellow lines still apply. Hoxton's western side, round Wenlock Road, is zone A and weekday-only.
