Hounslow West station opened in 1884 as Hounslow Barracks, after the cavalry barracks on Beavers Lane, south of the station, and was renamed in 1925. The ticket hall on the Bath Road is Charles Holden's from 1931: a seven-sided drum faced in Portland stone, with single-storey shops either side, and it is Grade II listed.
Housing in Hounslow West
Hounslow West grew quickly between the wars. Over 8,000 houses and flats were built in Heston and Isleworth between 1921 and 1931, which nearly doubled the district's total. In 1935 the borough opened Beaversfield Park, laid out on the fields of Beavers Farm between Ivanhoe Road and Rosemary Avenue, for the fast-growing population around it. By 1962 the Victoria County History also recorded an estate of 204 houses and flats at Hounslow West, built for London Airport workers by the British Airways Staff Housing Society.
At the 2021 Census, Hounslow West ward had 4,879 households. A third (33.3%) lived in a semi-detached house, 34.7% in a purpose-built block of flats and 14.9% in a terrace. A 1930s semi usually has its kitchen at the back, often extended since, with space for a freestanding cooker or a double built in at eye level; a flat in a block more often has a single under the worktop.
The method is the same for both. Racks, trays and side runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately. The cavity, the fan cover and the door glass are degreased by hand indoors, and the door is split where its design allows.

The Cavalry Barracks site on Beavers Lane
The barracks were built on the heath in 1793. In October 2022 the council resolved to grant permission for 1,525 homes on the former Ministry of Defence site, nearly 37 acres, with the old buildings kept and converted; 14 of them are Grade II listed. In September 2023 the developer, Inland Homes, announced it would appoint administrators, and the site was then put up for sale, so when any new flats arrive is not settled.

Parking zones around Hounslow West station
Hounslow's page on the Hounslow West zone review gives the controlled hours as 9.30am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday and 9.30am to 12.30pm on Saturday; the review followed a petition about parking on the Bath Road. Osborne Road and Wellington Road North are in a separate Osborne Road zone on the council's CPZ map, which runs 9am to 5.30pm on weekdays and keeps the same Saturday hours. The council says entry boards show a zone's operating times and that residents' visitors can apply for a permit, so read the board and the signs on the day. The team needs somewhere to park.

Yes. It needs to be cool when we get there, and we need a working socket in the kitchen.
Is a Saturday visit dearer?
No, weekends are charged at the weekday price. The Hounslow West zone still runs until 12.30pm on Saturdays, so an afternoon slot can make parking easier near the station.
Can the hob be cleaned at the same visit?
