Since 11 December 2025 every house in multiple occupation in Hounslow needs a licence, borough-wide, under an additional scheme the council designated on 11 September 2025 and set to run five years. Most London boroughs only license a handful of wards. Hounslow licensed the lot, and that includes section 257 conversions, the old blocks of flats carved up before the building regulations caught up. What that means at the kitchen door is a shared oven: three or more people from separate households, one cooker, no agreed owner of the grill pan.
Shared kitchens take the worst of it
A family oven gets a roast on Sunday. An HMO oven off Lampton Road runs most nights, by different people, none of whom wipe the base. The carbon on the floor of one of those goes hard and thick, which is exactly the job the tank is for. Racks, shelves, trays and side runners come out to the van and soak. The cavity, fan cover and door glass are hand-degreased indoors with non-caustic products. If the hob has gone the same way, a hob in a shared Hounslow Central kitchen is £23–28 on top.
The newer half of TW3
Then there is the other Hounslow. High Street Quarter and the blocks going up near Lampton Park, which is 40 acres and about 300 metres from Hounslow Central station, are studios and one to three-bed flats with an integrated single oven behind a fitted door. Different job, same price. The Victorian terraces closest to the High Street sit between the two, usually a freestanding 60cm cooker in a back kitchen.

I am a landlord with a licensed HMO. How often should the oven be done?
Between tenancies at least, and TW3 tenancies are short given how close Heathrow is on the Piccadilly line. Some landlords here book it half-yearly instead.
Will the flat smell of chemicals afterwards?
No. Nothing caustic is used indoors, which is the point of taking the parts outside to a tank.
