No. 435 Hook Road, on the east side a short walk south of Hook Parade, is inscribed 1669. It is a two-storey lobby-entry house, probably timber-framed behind its painted brick front, with weather-boarded sides and a steep pantiled roof round a central chimney, and it has been listed Grade II since 1983.
Hook Road, from Mansfield Road to the Ace of Spades
Kingston's character study describes Hook as a small settlement on the road farm carts took to Kingston market, with sheep and cattle driven along it, in country known for orchards and strawberry fields. Hook Road is still the spine. The study marks the area's southern edge at the shops by the Mansfield Road roundabout and its northern edge at the Ace of Spades, with Hook Parade in between as the centre, where buildings rise to three storeys. The present St Paul's church was built in 1881 to 1883 to a design by Carpenter and Ingelow, and its churchyard holds the memorial cross to the aviator Harry Hawker, who lived almost opposite. The Parish Hall beside it is a Building of Townscape Merit, and King Edward's Recreation Ground opens up the view to the fields west of the road.
At 207 Hook Road a blue plaque marks where Enid Blyton lived from 1920 to 1924. The Ace of Spades junction at the northern end, where Hook Road meets the A3, is named after a 1930s roadhouse that stood there.

The 1930s roads either side of Hook Road
Most of the housing on both sides of the road was laid out in the 1930s, the study says, as low-density semis with generous plots, wide verges and street trees. It picks out Somerset Avenue, Vallis Way and Selwood Road as a good, consistent example of 1930s suburban housing, and Elmcroft Drive, from the late 1930s, for its Arts and Crafts detail. Kelvin Grove, in the same group, is post-war: detached houses with big hipped clay-tile roofs and integral garages, set round a curved end. Clayton Road is older and looser, with 1880s cottages near the Cricketers pub and a country-lane feel, while Hartfield Road and Stormont Way have a regular street pattern, with gabled rhythms in Stormont Way. Among those roads the flats in Ripon Gardens are the exception to the low density.
The census area covering this stretch of Hook Road, with Hartfield Road and Trewenna Drive, had 616 households in 2021. 39.6% lived in a semi, 31.7% in a terraced house and 22.9% in a purpose-built flat, and 17.4% rented from the council. That mix covers most kinds of kitchen, from a flat's built-in single to a double, or a range in an extended semi or a bigger detached house.
The method does not change with the kitchen. Racks, trays and side runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately. Indoors, the cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased by hand, on dust sheets, and the door is split where its design allows.

Parking near Hook Road
Hook is not in any of the controlled zones or permit areas on Kingston's parking list. Hook Road itself is a busy through route, which the study says splits the area in two, so the van is usually better off in a side road; yellow lines and signs still apply, so check them. On roads such as Hartfield Road, where front gardens have given way to parking, a free driveway is the easiest stop.
Questions about oven cleaning in Hook
Is Hook part of Chessington or Surbiton?

Can I cancel if my plans change?
Yes, free of charge up to 24 hours before the visit.

Reviews from our rounds
Arrived promptly and did a great job cleaning the oven, hob and extractor. They look like new now and for a very reasonable price too.
Once again a great job guys, I will see you in a couple of months.
Very satisfied with the service. They were slightly late at first but I got a call from customer service to let me know, and it was all fine. The oven man, as he called himself, arrived and worked very hard for a couple of hours. My oven now looks like it has never been used.
