Most of our work in this ward is flats. Odhams Walk gives us a lot of it: 102 homes the GLC finished off Long Acre in 1981, stacked over a commercial podium and reached by pedestrian ramps rather than by a front door on the pavement. The ward's other end is the Bourne Estate on Portpool Lane, built by the London County Council in 1909, with 75 more homes added in the 2018 rebuild. The kitchens are nothing alike. Bourne flats usually have a freestanding cooker you can pull forward; Odhams Walk is galley-shaped, with an integrated oven under the worktop.
The kitchens here are small and mostly integrated
Between Seven Dials and Lincoln's Inn Fields the stock is upper-floor conversions above shops, ex-GLC and ex-LCC estate flats, and company lets off Kingsway. Integrated single ovens dominate. The occasional 90cm range turns up towards Great Ormond Street, and almost no AGAs. A single oven clean is the booking nine times out of ten. Ninety minutes, knock to heat test.
Parking is the first part of the job
The ward sits inside Camden's CA-C controlled parking zone, Monday to Saturday, 08:30 to 18:30, resident bays controlled around the clock. It is inside the Congestion Charge zone and the ULEZ. Our van pays that, not you. Odhams Walk has no kerbside of its own, so we stop on Shelton Street and carry the racks in.

Company lets set the calendar
Offices and theatres outnumber residents badly in WC2, and that shows in who rings us. Plenty of the flats off Drury Lane and Great Queen Street are company tenancies on twelve-month contracts, so the oven work clusters around check-out dates. September is our busiest month here.
Do you clean the oven in the flat or take it away?
In the flat. Racks, trays and side runners go to the van and soak in a heated dip tank, while the cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased by hand indoors with non-caustic products, so no one in the block smells chemicals.
Is there a call-out charge for WC1 and WC2?
No. There is no call-out fee anywhere inside the North and South Circular, and no central London surcharge.
Can you come around a Saturday check-out?
Usually. A Saturday morning in Covent Garden is easier for the van than a weekday, because the loading bays around Neal Street are not yet full of deliveries.
What about the hood above the oven?
An extractor hood is £28. Most tenancy jobs here are the oven plus the hood, since these galley kitchens vent up into a canopy nobody has touched.
