Rye House gatehouse went up around 1443 for Sir Andrew Ogard, and more than fifty types of moulded brick went into it, which is why the fragment still standing is both Grade I listed and a scheduled monument. Rawdon House, red brick, was built in 1622 for Sir Marmaduke Rawdon. The clock tower on the High Street is the only piece of the 1835 town hall left standing.
