Hillingdon Heath was common land, about 200 acres of it, straddling the London road east of Hillingdon village; by 1825 seven gentlemen's houses stood along its northern edge, their gardens extended to the main road under the inclosure award.
From common land to suburb
The Victoria County History traces what followed. By 1894 there were nurseries on the heath, growing for the London market. When the tramway from Southall reached Uxbridge in 1904, a depot for 25 electric trams was built at Hillingdon Heath; it closed about 1915 and was turned over to industry. The actor Bernard Miles was born here in 1907, at No. 2 Poplar Terrace. Goulds Green, to the south, was once a 20-acre arm of the heath, and by 1934 private housing estates covered much of the triangle between Hillingdon village, Colham Green and Goulds Green.

At the 2021 Census its 701 households were 34.1% semis, 22.8% purpose-built flats and 22.2% terraced houses. 31.7% rented privately and 15.0% from the council or a housing association, so close to half of the homes here are let.
