Aberdeen Park, a private road running east off Highbury Grove, was laid out on George Morrice's land in the 1850s, and St Saviour's church, built in 1866, stands in the middle of the estate.
Villas on Aberdeen Park and Highbury Grove
By the mid-1850s large detached and semi-detached villas in an Italian style faced Highbury Grove and lined the south side of Aberdeen Park; the road was later extended roughly into a square to fill Morrice's estate, though many plots there were still empty in the 1890s. Islington's guidelines for the Aberdeen Park conservation area note that some 1920s houses and modern blocks of flats have been added, but that a large number of the Victorian villas survive. The same guidelines mention a listed balloon shed behind Nos. 124 and 126 and name the Balloon Factory at 56a Highbury Grove, the address the balloon makers C. G. Spencer & Sons moved to from Holloway.
The housing here is a mix. In the ONS area that covers that stretch of Highbury Grove, Morea Mews and Aberdeen Park (Islington 009A), 51.2% of the 847 households in 2021 lived in a purpose-built block of flats and 26.6% in part of a converted or shared house, while 8.5% had a whole detached or semi-detached house. 38.4% owned their home, 31.6% rented from a social landlord and 28.2% rented privately.
Henry Rydon's Highbury New Park
Highbury New Park was developed from 1851 by Henry Rydon. The road was first called Park Road, and its detached and semi-detached houses, by several builders, were designed by Charles Hambridge in a mix of Italian and Romanesque styles. By 1860 there were 43 houses at the southern end and 33 at the northern, with the middle still open; in the central part, land once meant for a crescent was built over with terraces between 1873 and 1877.
These were family houses, and many did not stay that way. The Victoria County History gives No. 150 Highbury New Park as an example: in 1936 it held two flats on the ground floor sharing a bathroom, a flat and two bedsits on the first floor, and another flat above. A villa split up like that usually ends up with small kitchens and a built-in single in each. One still in one piece is the kind of house with room for a double oven or a range cooker.

Zone Q, Quadrant, and the Highbury Grove split
The council's postcode lookup puts Aberdeen Park, Morea Mews and the east side of Highbury Grove in zone Q, which it names Quadrant. Bays there are controlled from 8.30am to 6.30pm on weekdays and have no weekend controls at all, except when the Emirates has a match or another big event: then weekday control runs to 8.30pm and Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays are controlled from noon to 4.30pm. The west side of Highbury Grove (N5 1HN) is in zone E, which also covers Saturday mornings.
Aberdeen Park itself is a private road, so tell us if you live on it and where a van can stop.

Is a weekend visit easier for parking in zone Q?
Usually, yes. With no match or other event at the Emirates, zone Q has no controls on Saturday or Sunday, and weekend visits cost the same as weekdays.
Do you clean AGAs as well?
Yes. A two-oven AGA is £143 and takes about half a day; it needs switching off the night before so it is cool by morning. The AGA cleaning page has the detail.
