Highbury and Islington station opened on 26 September 1850 as plain Islington, on the North London Railway, and was given its present name on 1 July 1872.
An interchange at Highbury Corner
The Great Northern and City Railway added its own station across Holloway Road on 28 June 1904, called Highbury until 1922. A flying bomb damaged the old station on 27 June 1944, and the single-storey building used today went up in the 1960s for the Victoria line, which opened on 1 September 1968. Now the Victoria line, two Overground lines and the Northern City line all stop here, and the rail regulator counted almost 24 million entries and exits on the National Rail side alone in 2024-25.
The roundabout outside has gone. Transport for London started work in June 2018, two-way traffic began in April 2019, and the finished junction has cycle lanes on all three sides and a new forecourt in front of the station.
Calabria Road terraces and Dixon Clark Court
A few minutes north-east of the station, Calabria Road was laid out for housing in the 1880s and 1890s. Islington's guidelines for its conservation area describe ornate red-brick terraces with bay windows, two or three storeys, some over a semi-basement, and they refuse conversions that would cram too many flats into one house. South-east of the junction, on Canonbury Road, Dixon Clark Court is a tower of 59 flats on an Islington council estate; in 2024 Islington and its builder finished 41 new homes around it, 27 for council tenants and 14 for sale.
Many homes in the streets north-east of the station are let. In the Census area that covers Calabria Road and Corsica Street (Islington 013B), 43.4% of the 980 households rented privately in 2021, against 31.2% across Islington. 39.2% lived in a purpose-built block and 23.9% in part of a converted or shared house.

Zone E round the station
Calabria Road, Corsica Street and Highbury Station Road all come up as zone E on the council's postcode lookup. In zone E a permit, a voucher or a paid session is needed from 8.30am to 6.30pm on weekdays and from 8.30am until 1.30pm on Saturdays. Arsenal home games and big Emirates events stretch that to 8.30pm on weekdays and 4.30pm on Saturdays, and add Sunday control from noon to 4.30pm.

I hand my keys back on Friday. Can the oven be done the day before?
Yes, if there is a slot; book early, and cancelling is free up to 24 hours before the visit. If the flat is already empty, keys can be collected by arrangement.
My new-build oven has a self-clean setting. Is the price different?
No. It is priced as a single or a double like any other oven, and the hand clean reaches the door glass and the fan cover. The pyrolytic guide compares the two.
Can the extractor be done at the same visit?
Yes. An extractor is £28; with a single oven and a hob the three together are £117, and with a double oven £143.
