Mansion-block lifts in W8 are often original, with strict size and weight limits, and some of the older ones will not take a technician plus a full set of oven racks in one go. That is a real part of the job: everything removable comes out and soaks in a heated tank in the van, so a third-floor flat off Iverna Gardens means two trips down and two back. The Royal Borough runs single-yellow controlled parking Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 6.30pm, which means a mid-morning booking needs a paid bay and a bit of luck near the High Street. No. The caustic soak stays in the van. Indoors we hand-degrease the cavity, fan cover and door glass with non-caustic products.
Can you clean an AGA that is switched on?
No. It has to be off and cold, which for most AGAs means turning it off the night before.
