There are no pubs in Hextable, and that is not an oversight: the landowners who broke up Hextable Farm in 1870 and sold the ground off in villa plots wrote drink restrictions into the terms, and the village that grew up afterwards has kept to them ever since. It covers 1.98 sq km. The 2011 census counted 4,092 people, the post town is Swanley, and the dialling code is 01322.

Hextable grew on glasshouses and market gardens, and roads named Emerson and Panters carry the growers' names. The Avenue of Limes, an Elizabethan planting, links New Barn Road with College Road, and Hextable Park runs to nine acres. Housing along College Road, Egerton Avenue and New Road, hanging off the B258 Main Road, is largely detached and semi-detached with its own kitchen space.
New nursery ground, new appliances
Egerton Nursery, thirty-five houses off Lambs Close built on old growing land, went up with quartz worktops, integrated Neff appliances and induction hobs as standard. Integrated ovens come out of a fitted housing, so the door glass and the cavity are hand-degreased in place with non-caustic products while the racks and side runners soak. Where the van goes
The village sits in Sevenoaks district, outside the Greater London boundary, so there is no controlled parking zone to buy a visitor bay in and most addresses have a driveway or a kerb. Swanley station is about 2 miles off; Arriva route 477 runs through to Dartford and Orpington. The heated tank stays in the van, which is why the shelves and trays leave the kitchen and come back clean. No mains water needed.

Will the kitchen smell of chemicals afterwards?
It should not. The caustic soaking happens in the tank in the van, outside. Indoors the cavity, fan cover and door glass are done by hand with non-caustic products.
How long does it take?
Around 90 minutes for a single oven, roughly two hours for a double.
Do you test the oven before you leave?
Yes. It goes back together, gets heat-tested and is signed off with you before we pack up. Technicians are insured and DBS-checked.
