The curved concrete hangar on Aerodrome Way went up in 1929 for Heston Air Park, and Historic England's listing calls it the first all-concrete aircraft hangar built in Britain. It is the last of the airfield's early buildings: the clubhouse and control tower were pulled down in 1978.

The air park opened in 1929 for private flying and covered 105 acres by 1934. The government bought it in 1937 and by 1939 it took in nearly all the land north of Cranford Lane. Further south the housing changes. Around Shelley Crescent and Browning Way (census area Hounslow 010D), 63.7% of the 556 households lived in a semi-detached house in 2021, and 54.0% owned their home. Across Heston West as a whole the semi was the most common home: 41.1% of 4,706 households, with 31.0% in flats and 20.3% in terraces.
A semi with a family kitchen is where a double oven, or a range, is most likely to turn up.
