London Oven Cleaners clean ovens in Herongate from £77. Before we pack up, the oven is heated and you inspect it; any corner that is not right gets done again.
Herongate is named after Heron Hall, the Tyrell family's moated brick house with round towers, which was pulled down after the last Tyrell died in 1788; only the moat is left. The village grew as cottages were built out onto the edge of Ingrave Common. A Petre estate map of 1598 already shows several houses along its east side, and by the tithe map of 1839 Cricketers Lane was taking shape as a road.
Cottages five to seven metres wide in the old village
The old village has been a conservation area since 12 December 1975, with 13 Grade II listed buildings in it. The council's appraisal, researched in 2008, describes houses only 5 to 7 metres wide and one-and-a-half or two storeys high. The older ones are timber-framed, their frames hidden under white-painted plaster or weatherboard. Nos 15 to 19 and 25 Cricketers Lane are Georgian red brick, No. 21 was the butcher's and No. 29 the bakery, and No. 13, behind the Green Man, is a 15th-century fragment of a medieval hall house and the oldest known building in the conservation area.
A house that narrow usually has a small kitchen, and small kitchens often have a freestanding cooker. The racks, trays and side runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately. The hand work is the cavity, the fan cover and the door glass, degreased over dust sheets.

Ingrave, the main centre of population in the parish
Herongate has shared a civil parish with Ingrave since 2003. From the end of the 19th century houses spread over the northern part of Ingrave Common, and suburban roads now fill the ground between the A128 and Cricketers Lane and run out along the Billericay Road. The Census 2021 output areas that best fit the parish held 2,161 people in 850 households: 41.0% lived in a detached house and 43.4% in a semi, and 84.5% owned their home.
Across the A128, in the same parish, stands Thorndon Hall, built in 1764 to 1770 by James Paine for Lord Petre. Its centre and west end burnt out in 1878, and in 1980 the house and its stables were converted into 84 apartments. It is listed Grade I. If you live there, tell us the floor when you book.
Parking on the greens and lanes
The appraisal found rows of cars along the edge of the greensward at the south end of Cricketers Lane, and said that garages and parking were beginning to compromise the setting of the cottages on Rectory Lane. Where there are lines or signs, the South Essex Parking Partnership enforces them, so read what is at the kerb. If you have a drive, say so when you call.

Questions about a Herongate visit
My cottage kitchen is tiny. How does the visit work?
The racks, trays and side runners are taken out and cleaned separately. The cavity, fan cover and door glass are done by hand in the kitchen, with dust sheets down first.
Can the range hob be cleaned on the same visit?
Yes. The hob or hood of a range cooker is £48, added to the oven price.
Do you cover West Horndon as well?
Yes. West Horndon, to the south, has its own page.
Can you come on a Sunday?
Yes. We work seven days a week, and a Sunday visit costs the same as a weekday one.

What customers tell us
I would certainly recommend this service, very efficient and good value for money. The young man did a great job and even cleaned the kitchen floor. Thank you.
Very satisfied with the service. They were slightly late at first but I got a call from customer service to let me know, and it was all fine. The oven man, as he called himself, arrived and worked very hard for a couple of hours. My oven now looks like it has never been used.
Once again a great job guys, I will see you in a couple of months.
