From Stones Farm to a council park
Croydon Council's own history of the estate says it was Stones Farm, one of the farms of the Manor of Addington, until it became a Georgian estate named Heathfield by 1837. Henry Goschen leased it after 1866, and a west wing was added around his tenancy. Raymond Riesco bought it in 1927, restored the house and grounds, laid out the rock garden and terraces, and built up the rhododendrons and azaleas in the wood. In December 1945 he agreed that Croydon Corporation would buy the estate; the gardens were opened to the public from 1958, and the Corporation bought the rest after he died in March 1964. The house has been listed Grade II since February 1983, and the old orchard has been an ecology centre since 1997. From 1978 to 2018 Heathfield was also the name of a council ward.
Semis and detached houses off Ballards Way
The homes just west and south-west of the park, on Riesco Drive, Ballards Way, Chapel View and The Gallop, fall in one small census area (Croydon 033C). At the 2021 Census it had 602 households: 68.1% in a semi, 28.4% in a detached house and almost none, 0.3%, in a flat. 90.4% owned their home, and 46.3% owned it outright.

Drives and parking near Coombe Lane
None of the 20 permit zones on Croydon's list is named for Selsdon, Addington or Coombe, and with most homes here detached or semi-detached houses, many are likely to have a drive. If the van can stand on yours, say so when you book: some teams have a heated tank on the van and use it when they can park close, otherwise everything is done in the kitchen, and the price is the same either way. If it cannot, the signs on the street decide where it can wait.
