Haydons Road is a road and a station, not a district. It opened on 1 October 1868 as Haydens Lane, built by the Tooting, Merton and Wimbledon Railway, and was renamed in October 1889; it is now a Thameslink stop on the Sutton Loop in the Summerstown corner of north-east Merton. What surrounds it is mostly Victorian terrace, and terraced houses on Haydons Road itself have lately been selling at an average of around £821,000.

Terraces of that period usually run over three floors with the kitchen in a rear extension, so the cooker sits in a narrow galley a step from the garden door.
