Hatch End station opened in the 1840s under the name Pinner, where the railway crosses Uxbridge Road, and was renamed Hatch End (for Pinner) in 1920; its red-brick entrance block of 1911, by Gerald Horsley, is listed Grade II.
Woodridings: villas of 1855, flats now
The first houses of the Woodridings estate, just west of the station and south of Uxbridge Road, were ready in 1855. Across Uxbridge Road, the Victoria County History records new estates at Westfield Park and Royston Park by 1908. In the census area round Royston Park Road (Harrow 004C), 74.9% of households lived in a detached house in 2021 and almost half owned outright. Hatch End ward as a whole had the highest detached share of any Harrow ward, 34.2%.

Parking round the station: zone Y
Hatch End's shops line Uxbridge Road: the council counts about 81 shopfronts in the parade, with the station 280 metres to the east. The side streets by the station, Westfield Park, Elm Hatch, Braeside Close, Cherry Croft Gardens and St Cuthberts Gardens among them, are in controlled zone Y, which runs for two hours a day: 10 to 11am and 3 to 4pm, Monday to Saturday.
Between those hours, and all day on Sunday, there are no zone controls, and a single or a double started at 11am is finished before the afternoon hour. Woodridings Avenue, Oakleigh Road and Royston Park Road were outside every zone on the council's map in October 2026. Plates on the street can change faster than any map, so read the one at the end of your road. The team needs somewhere to park for the whole visit.
