In 1801 Hartley held 151 people in 23 dwellings, and by 1901 it had reached only 284. The 2011 census counted 5,359. All Saints is early 12th century and listed Grade I.
Small Owners Limited cut the village into two to six acre plots
Payne Trapps and Co bought 122 acres in 1905 and laid out Merton Avenue, Wellfield, Larksfield, Gresham Avenue and Woodland Avenue, selling the land in blocks 25 feet wide. In 1912 and 1913 Small Owners Limited bought most of what remained, parcelled it into plots of two to six acres, and encouraged newcomers to build their own houses, run a smallholding and travel to London to work from the rebuilt station at Longfield. Mains water had arrived in 1902. Building carried on through the 1920s and stopped in 1939.
Wellfield and Bramblefield are not the same job
Sevenoaks District Council's adopted design statement says most dwellings here are bungalows, chalet and two-storey houses, and that the last large estates finished around 1978. Wellfield sits at the northern edge by the railway, started in 1970 on land Dartford Rural District Council acquired, and runs to more than 450 dwellings of terraced houses, maisonettes and sheltered housing, about half privately owned now and the rest with West Kent Housing Association. Bramblefield went up across the 1980s and 1990s as small bungalows and maisonette blocks aimed at the over 50s. The same statement notes older bungalows with a bit of land coming down for what it calls executive type homes. If yours has a built-in double, that is £110.
Nothing caustic comes into the kitchen
Racks, shelves, trays and side runners lift out and soak in a heated tank in the van, and where there is a drive that is where the van stands rather than out on Ash Road. The cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased by hand indoors with non-caustic products. Fixed price, no premium-area surcharge on a DA3 address.
